Snacking can be tricky on a totally clean lifestyle because pretty much all the store bought snacks are out of question. So you have to be a bit creative when that afternoon sugar dip hits in and you are craving something sweet. I must admit, this snack isn't on-the-go friendly, but if you are at home and are rummaging through your pantry in desperate search of chocolate, try this superfood snack: peanut butter - covered bananas instead.
I’m sure you all know why bananas are so good for you with all of their plant protein, potassium and fibre. But the real celebs of this recipes are the different superfoods sprinkled on top!
Maca, a superfood powder made from a Peruvian root is known as the "hormone balancing" powder (making it great for us ladies during "that time of the month"). I always make sure to incorporate maca into my smoothies/breakfast bowls prior to getting my period to avoid any PMS or skin outbreaks. Baobab is an amazing source of Vitamin C and iron and hence works wonders for your immune system, so if you are living in a colder country like I am at the moment, this would be a great additive to your daily diet. Bee pollen not only contains a lot of plant protein, but the form of the protein is also better matched for our absorption, allowing us to reap it's full benefits. It is an anti - inflammatory and is also known to reduce any symptoms of allergies. And oh boy, do I have a lot of allergies (this is a topic for a blog post in it's own)! Whenever hay fever season kicks in, I make sure to get an extra daily dose of bee pollen just to be on the safe side. And last but not least, let's take a closer look at cacao. Raw cacao, which is chocolate in its natural, untampered form is actually good for us. Yes you heard me, chocolate can be healthy. Raw cacao is an incredible source of antioxidants, magnesium and iron and will release those "happy hormones" without leaving you feeling guilty afterwards.
