My Favourite Bondi Farmers Market Stalls

My Favourite Bondi Farmers Market Stalls

It's been almost two months since I moved to Sydney and I just realized that I haven't posted a single blog post about my experience here so far. I guess my excuse is that I've really been living in the moment, soaking it all in and just enjoying it. Mindfulness is what it's about, right? But I wouldn't want to keep all the amazingness that I've encountered from you, so I've decided to write about one of my best experiences so far: Bondi Farmers Market.

I had been meaning to go to Bondi Farmers Market months before even moving to Sydney as I had heard so many awesome things about it. And it certainly didn't disappoint. Beautiful healthy produce, amazing food stalls, cool chill out spots on the grass with live music and the beach right across the road. That has to be food market perfection!

The farmer's market phenomena may be partially because it's "fashionable" and trendy to shop there, but I'm just so excited to see more and more people becoming increasingly interested in where their food comes from and how it's grown and produced. Plus you get to support local producers and even reduce your carbon footprint.

Why You Should Try Anti Gravity Yoga in 2016

Why You Should Try Anti Gravity Yoga in 2016

If you still haven't tried anti gravity yoga aka aerial yoga, then you really need to jump onto the bandwagon. Here's why you should try anti gravity yoga in 2016:

Aerial yoga involves performing a series of exercises inspired by yoga, pilates, calisthenics and aerial acrobatics in a hammock-like swing. Think Cirque du Soleil for beginners!

It's a great new and exciting way of doing a full body workout, and hey, who doesn't like swinging around upside down playing kid every now and then.

Apart from the fun, there's actually some serious health benefits associated with the sport. Without the compression of the joints, especially the back, it's easier to achieve a proper posture by relaxing rather than trying to force yourself into an alignment that seems unnatural.

  • It's great for anyone with back issues, because the free hanging allows your spine to destress and lenghten.

  • It also helps increase strength and flexibility

  • The different types of stretches combined with the flippin' around helps improve the digestive system

  • It's a beautiful mind-body-spirit experience!

Vegan Banana Blueberry Pancakes

Vegan Banana Blueberry Pancakes

Happy weekend everyone!

Before I get into the deliciousness of these fluffy vegan banana blueberry pancakes, let me just get something off my chest quickly: I am so grateful for the mind-blowing feedback about my ED posts (herehere and here) and the words of encouragement I have received about starting to health coach. You. guys. are. the. best.

Now, back to these glorious pancakes...I don't eat pancakes very often, but every now and then I get a major craving for them. With frozen berries in the freezer and overripe bananas on the counter at all times, I can always whip up some pancakes whenever that craving creeps in.

These banana blueberry pancakes are vegan and gluten free. Nutritionally speaking they are a bit on the indulgent side, but who doesn't love a good weekend treat. Make sure the bananas are really ripe to get the best flavour. If they are covered in brown spots, they are good to go. If you're looking for an eggy version with maca, these might be for you.

My Story With An Eating Disorder - Part 3

My Story With An Eating Disorder - Part 3

At the end of Part 2 of "My Story With an Eating Disorder" I left you on a positive note, it almost sounded like recovery was smooth sailing. But let me tell you: it really wasn't.

I mean, yes, I started understanding what my triggers were and yes, I slowly began opening my eyes to a wholesome diet that left me feeling energised and happy. But consciously understanding the issue and actually reprogramming your subconscious are two very different things.

There was a phase in my recovery where I thought I had understood everything, had left no stone unturned and knew exactly what got me riled up, but somehow, somehow I still couldn't resist the urge to binge once it came up. Once that feeling crept in, there was no way in hell to stop it. I was like a roaring monster that just wanted food, food and more food.

Previously the binging used to happen on autopilot, but now there was a part of me that was somewhat conscious about it. There was this moment before the binge, just a split second, where I knew what I was about to do and why I was about to do it, but then I would still go ahead and do it anyways.

My Story with an Eating Disorder - Part 2

For the first part of my story with an eating disorder, click here.

Fast forward half a year. I have now moved from Dubai to Switzerland and started uni there. Everything seems perfect on paper, but deep down I'm still struggling. In fact, I'm struggling more than ever. I am throwing up twice a day, the scale is my best friend and the mirror my worst nightmare. I know that food and negative body image are controlling every aspect of my life, but I feel too powerless to fight it.

During the first weeks of uni I met Phil, my boyfriend with whom I have been for almost five years now. Remember when I said that I was very sick yet functional at the same time? Well, I was so "functional" that I even managed to hide this side of me from the person closest to me. The shame of being locked into this lonely cycle of bizarre behaviour was driving me sheer crazy and I hated not being able to be honest to someone I cared about so much. I felt alone in a way that was terrifying and I felt like I was going to have obsessions and compulsions around food forever.

Every Monday morning I would promise to myself that this week would be better, but by that same evening all good intentions were out the window and I would give in to my drug of choice once again. Yet there were no empty alcohol bottles or used needles. The evidence of my dirty little secret was a pile of food wrappers around me.

My Story With an Eating Disorder - Part 1

My Story With an Eating Disorder - Part 1

I’ve had this post in draft for months, but I never felt ready to post it. I've been reading it over and over again, adding bits and pieces here and there trying to see if it all makes sense. And somehow this morning I felt ready to share my story. My eating disorder story.

I mean, I've talked about this very openly in the past and have written several posts and guest posts about it, but nothing ever like this. This, my friends, is full disclosure. I'm sharing it all with you, the good, the bad and the ugly. I want to share this story with you because wether you've suffered from an eating disorder or not, wether you consider yourself an emotional eater or wether you've ever felt uncomfortable in your body, I think you can relate to the challenges that come along with the search for a healthy, happy and fulfilling life.

Warning, this is a long post! I decided to split my story into three parts because it's quite a long and heavy read..If you want the quick & easy version, feel free to breeze through the "About Me" section instead.

Reminiscing About Phuket Cleanse

Reminiscing About Phuket Cleanse

During my long flight from Zurich to Sydney I cleaned up my laptop a bit and realised I still have loads of pictures from my time at Phuket Cleanse that I haven't shared with you yet. FYI, Phuket Cleanse is an active detox retreat in Thailand that I went to for a couple days last year and totally fell in love with.

Since I'm still getting set up here in Sydney and am currently apartment hunting and doing bunch of other admin stuff, I thought I'd just share these pictures with you guys until I find time to take up blogging again!

Enjoy, xx

Wholesome Travel Guide To Berlin

Wholesome Travel Guide To Berlin

Alright, I’m only two months late, but better now then never right? Here comes your go-to health guide to Berlin!

Because I was super busy with work and my health coaching studies, Vic prepared the entire trip and researched all the places that we wanted to go to (aka she harassed me for three weeks beforehand trying to plan every nitty gritty detail of the trip #slightlyocd). But seemingly it pays off to have friends who study hospitality management, because everything about the trip was simply amazing. In short: I love Berlin because it’s absolute vegan heaven. Okay, you don’t need to read no further. You know everything now. Bye bye.

Since Vic planned the trip, I had no idea what to expect. Normally it’s my boyfriend who gets so lean back and enjoy (that’s debatable) the things I plan out, so it was a nice change to be on the receiving end. These days what I get most excited about when visiting a new place is testing my way through the vegan restaurant scene. Luckily Vic feels the same, so our trip was spent eating, eating and doing some more, well, eating.

But seriously, we had a crazy busy schedule and were basically speed walking from location to location. Which we were both secretly happy about because we ate about the amount of Vic’s weekly meal plan in one weekend. Good thing we were actually writing a healthy jetsetter guide for Well To Do London, at least that gave us an excuse as to why we were stuffing our faces 24/7. A girl has gotta try all the food before she can report about it, right?

My First Experience Heli Skiing in Canada

My First Experience Heli Skiing in Canada

3000m up high in the middle of the Canadian mountains surrounded by fresh powder. Silence, only the sound of your own panting breath and your skis cutting through meter deep snow. Hazy memories of never-ending untouched runs and a rush of adrenaline like nothing else can give you...My first experience heli skiing in Canada...

I've always loved skiing. Having grown up in Switzerland and Bavaria, Germany, for a big part of my life, I've lived close to the mountains for many years and my parents put me on skies at the tender age of three. Over time I've gradually improved, graduating to the joys of off piste skiing, mogul slopes and learning to make my way through deep snow. Given my parents are major hobby skiers who've already accumulated 30k+ height meters of heli skiing, it was only a matter of time that I would make friends with heli skiing myself.

Healthspo Talk with Mary Christine

Healthspo Talk with Mary Christine

During my month in Chiang Mai last year, I was scrolling through the hashtag #chiangmai and stumbled across Mary from Mantras and Mangos who was there on holidays. We chatted a while through Instagram and spontaneously decided to meet up, and so we went for dinner with a couple of other girls atImm Aim for some delicious Thai vegan food.

So here we are, sitting in this little cafe in Thailand, complete strangers from different parts of the world and we instantly clicked. Even though we barely knew each other, we started sharing our stories with our food struggles and journey to plant based living over lovely fresh food, followed by vegan ice cream, steamed buns and mango with sticky rice.

I remember leaving that evening bursting full of energy, excitement and gratitude. Full of energy because I felt so positive about everything, excitement because all girls inspired me to keep moving forward on my own health journey and grateful because I think it's just so damn amazing how social media allows us to connect with other like-minded people.

Postcards from St. Moritz - Kempinski Grand Hotels des Bains

Postcards from St. Moritz - Kempinski Grand Hotels des Bains

Standing tall at 1856 metres high and offering over 250 km of ski slopes, St. Moritz is known as one of the most exclusive ski resorts in Europe. It is mostly known for its jet set clientele, amazing hotels and restaurants, fancy night clubs and more glamour than you can handle. A paradise for billionaires, celebrities & co.

But if you know me, then you can guess that I didn't go to St. Moritz to dance away my nights in a club. No, no...Instead, I was invited by the prestigious Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains to enjoy a relaxing weekend testing how well they could accommodate a health and fitness freak like myself. Challenge accepted! I'm so happy that this opportunity came along because, given that I'm moving away soon, it was my last chance to discover a new part of Switzerland that I'd never been to before.

Vegan and sustainable fashion inspiration from LaBante

Vegan and sustainable fashion inspiration from LaBante

Maybe you make an effort to eat organic and buy vegan cosmetics, but have you given the same thought to your wardrobe?

I have to admit that I haven't, until recently. It was only when I interviewed my blogger friend Justine for my healthspo talk series that I began to think about where my clothes come from and how they are produced. I'm not saying that I instantly converted to being a vegan fashionista, but it definitely made me think...

The more I educate myself on the matter, the more I begin to understand the profound impact not only a vegan diet but generally a vegan lifestyle can have on our planet. There are a million and one reasons why going vegan is the right choice from a moral and environmental perspective, and I’m starting open my eyes to these important matters.

Did you know that fashion is the third most polluting industry in the world, after oil and agriculture? Scary, huh.
